Tottenham can sign Weston McKennie for €30 million

Tottenham Hotspur can reportedly sign American midfielder Weston McKennie from Serie A giants Juventus for around €30 million.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Tottenham are keen on signing Weston McKennie. And Juventus could look to sell the United States midfielder for a fee of around €25-30 million in January.

The 24-year-old central midfielder has done well for Juventus since joining the club. But he is not considered an indispensable asset for the Serie A outfit. Juventus are prepared to sell the player if their asking price is met, and McKennie has been linked with clubs like Aston Villa and AS Monaco as well.

It is no secret that Tottenham need to add more bodies to their midfield, and McKennie could prove to be a quality acquisition. The versatile midfielder is still relatively young, and he is likely to improve further with experience and coaching. Working with a world-class coach like Antonio Conte could help him develop further.

Tottenham are currently fighting for a place in the top four, and they need to add more depth and quality to their squad in order to finish the season strongly and perhaps win a trophy. So the interest in McKennie makes sense.

McKennie’s arrival will allow Conte to rotate his regular midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. Conte needs a deeper squad to compete on all fronts, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs can bring in the American international in January.

The reported asking price of around €30 million seems quite reasonable for a player of his ability. And McKennie certainly has the talent to justify the outlay over the next few seasons. The versatile box-to-box midfielder was highly rated during his time in the Bundesliga, and Conte could help him fulfil his potential at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Italian manager was heavily backed during the summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen that Daniel Levy is prepared to sanction a couple of signings in January as well. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham sign the versatile midfielder for around €30 million in January.
