Manchester United might not have the last laugh in their pursuit of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as Bayern Munich want to extend his contract.

According to Give Me Sport, Manchester United are unlikely to move ahead with their proposal to bring in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are planning to extend the stay of the in-form Cameroonian striker.

Manchester Untied are tipped to bring in a striker in January to compete with the current crop of attackers. Conversion of chances is something that Erik ten Hag has been working on from the start of the season. But there has not been any progress as it stands.

The Red Devils have tried the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo through the middle. But that knack for poaching goals has been missing, and the recruitment team has been informed to find a suitable candidate for the Manchester United manager.

The recent Cristiano Ronaldo episode has further accelerated the club’s efforts to bring in a possible replacement as the 37-year-old will no more in the manager’s plans as the current situations suggest. And Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has emerged as a viable target.

There is a probability of Ronaldo’s contract being terminated in the midst of the season, and Manchester United will be needing adequate reinforcements to fill in his boots. Choupo-Moting’s performances have been pretty surprising as the 33-year-old has never been the preferred choice at the Allianz Arena this season.

But he has grabbed up his chance with both hands and has been involved in eight goal contributions in ten Bundesliga matches. The Bayern Munich management is more than happy with his unlikely contributions and will be in discussion to offer the in-form striker fresh terms to fend off interests.

The Cameroon international is currently with his national team and will be eyeing a good showing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to elevate his levels. Meanwhile, Manchester United have drawn up alternate options and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen tops their list.

Choupo-Moting could be tipped as a short-term fix as the target man has the experience of Premier League football with Stoke City in past. In addition, Manchester United would not have required a hefty transfer fee as his current contract is bound to expire next summer. But the Red Devils are now highly unlikely to land the in-form striker, whose Bayern Munich stay will extend.
