Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to rival Liverpool in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean superstar Son Heung-min.

According to reports in Spain, as relayed by TEAM TALK, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering a swoop for Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min, who is also being targeted by Liverpool.

The South Korean international, who moved to north London from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015, has not only established himself as a mainstay in Tottenham Hotspur’s starting XI but is widely regarded as one of the best attackers in English football.

He has scored 136 goals and provided 76 assists in 344 competitive appearances for the Lilywhites, helping them reach the 2019 Champions League final, the 2021 EFL Cup final, and finish in the top four in all but two of his eight seasons at the club.

While he has not been at his productive best this season, scoring five goals in 19 appearances in all competitions, he shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah last season, having found the back of the net 23 times in the English top flight.

Apparently, the South Korean is keen to take the next step in his career, and win silverware. Liverpool are already on high alert over the situation and would be eager to recruit him from Spurs. Now, PSG have also joined the Reds in the race to sign the 30-year-old winger in the upcoming transfer windows.

Son has surfaced as the ideal fit for Liverpool over recent years. His blistering pace, directness, and eye for goal have always looked to match traits with Klopp’s preferred inverted wingers.

Now 30, with Spurs enjoying something of a renaissance under Antonio Conte, it’s highly unlikely that this transfer could go ahead. This would make a lot of sense for a cut-price fee or even a Bosman transfer.

However, Son’s contract is not set to expire until 2025, and Daniel Levy is an infamously stubborn negotiator. Liverpool would have to offer a substantial sum to entice Son away, which seems doubtful considering his age. That said, the situation might change come next summer should the Reds have new owners come next summer.

One club that should have no trouble offering the player top-draw wages and satisfying Spurs’ transfer fee demands is Paris Saint-Germain. The capital club are concerned about the future of Lionel Messi, whose contract ends at the end of this season.

If Messi does decide to leave Paris, Son is said to be one of PSG’s top candidates to replace the global icon, citing his technical and physical attributes. Not to mention, there is also uncertainty surrounding the futures of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham would be open to selling their star winger.
