Chelsea make contact to sign Leandro Trossard

Chelsea reportedly contacted Leandro Trossard’s agents to prise the attacker away from Brighton in January.

According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea have taken the next steps to lure Leandro Trossard in January. The Blues reportedly contacted the Belgian’s agents to understand the next steps before approaching Brighton with an offer.

Leandro Trossard is having yet another sensational season with Brighton. He is their top scorer with 7 goals and 2 assists this term. There have been some memorable performances, including a hattrick at Anfield and a goal in the rout of Chelsea at the Amex.

While he continues to perform to his best abilities for Brighton, the Belgian’s future is a huge doubt ahead of January. Trossard’s contract expires in the summer. Widespread reports suggested he could be available on a cut-price deal. The Seagulls reportedly hold the option of another year, as per Transfermarkt.

Some top Premier League sides are vying for his signature, but Brighton usually extracts the top value for players even with one year left. In Trossard’s case, Chelsea remains interested and could be willing to pay the required sums to get the Belgian.

Chelsea reportedly contacted Trossard’s agents to get ahead in the chase. They might want to understand the costs involved and the 27-year-old attacker’s demands if he is to sign for the club.

Graham Potter’s side faces a massive task to get back on track and probably hunt for a top-four place. Their current position indicates several issues in the squad, with the lack of goals the biggest problem. Kai Havertz is their top scorer with 3 goals, while the others are not firing during matches.

Additionally, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic could depart in January, opening space for Trossard in the squad. Moreover, a reunion with former manager Potter could be an intriguing prospect for the Belgian to choose Chelsea over others.

Newcastle United are also keen and reportedly willing to pay around £25 million to sign the 27-year-old attacker. The Brighton star would elevate the Magpies in their quest to finish in the top four or maybe even push an idea of a title chase.

However, Chelsea could have a larger appeal to the 27-year-old attacker, as he could fit right into their current squad.
