La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are weighing up signing Youri Tielemans, a target for Arsenal, in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will look to sign Youri Tielemans in the January transfer window. The Leicester City midfielder is also a target for Premier League giants Arsenal. And recent reports have claimed that the Gunners lead the race to sign him.

Youri Tielemans has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Leicester City from AS Monaco nearly four years ago. The Belgian international has been a pivotal figure for the Foxes during this period. At the same time, he remains a regular for the Red Devils on the international stage.

The 25-year-old has made 175 appearances thus far for Leicester City, chipping in with 27 goals and 25 assists. But the Midlands outfit will likely lose Tielemans as a free agent in the summer transfer window as he does not want to sign a new contract. But Barcelona and Arsenal want to prise him away in the January transfer window.

Barcelona bolstered the midfield unit in the summer transfer window by signing Franck Kessie. But the Ivory Coast international is yet to establish a foothold in Xavi Hernandez’s squad. In addition, Sergio Busquets might depart from Camp Nou in the summer transfer window after enduring a regression in his performance levels.

Tielemans has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, who will look to sign him in January. But the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Arsenal in the race to sign the 25-year-old. And recent reports have even suggested that the Gunners are ahead of Barcelona.

Arsenal, like Barcelona, reinforced the midfield department in the summer transfer window, bringing in Fabio Vieira. And while the young Portuguese midfielder is settling down at the Emirates, the north Londoners remain keen on signing another player. Tielemans is thus an option worth considering due to his versatility.

But recent reports have suggested that Leicester City might not part ways with the player in the January transfer window. So it will be interesting to see if Barcelona or Arsenal can convince the Foxes to sanction his departure this coming winter.
