Tottenham Hotspur will rival Manchester United in the pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

As per a report in 90min, Tottenham Hotspur are set to intensify his search for a backup forward and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has emerged as a possible target. Manchester United are also interested in the Bayern Munich forward.

The 33-year-old has exceeded all expectations this season after taking over Robert Lewandowski’s place in the team following the Pole’s departure for Barcelona in the summer. Ten goals and three assists in 15 matches kept everyone guessing as the Cameroon international is currently scoring at a rate of every 77 minutes on the pitch for the Bundesliga champions.

Manchester United have seriously considered signing the player as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who is certain to leave the club in January. The Portuguese international has not been anywhere near his best and has struggled to get into the team.

Following the Tottenham Hotspur incident, Manchester United kept their options open, with Ronaldo also a target for Sporting CP. And given a chance, Erik ten Hag won’t be blocking Ronaldo’s move if he finds a suitable replacement.

It was supposed to be a fresh start under Antonio Conte following Tottenham’s top-four finish last season. And the Italian tactician brought in as many as six new players in the summer to prove the doubters wrong.

But after a good start to the season, the North Londoners have somewhat lost track. And in the middle of packed fixtures and several injury concerns, Tottenham are struggling to match their early form.

Injuries to Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Richarlison have put Tottenham into an entangled situation. And the manager now wants to add some more players in January. Conte’s rigorous process can only be fulfilled by a certain kind of players, and Choupo-Moting definitely fits the bill.

The lanky centre-forward could be the perfect number nine for Tottenham as he has the ability to thrive in Conte’s system. But Bayern will unlikely entertain any offers and will discuss a new contract with the player very soon.

But with so many clubs interested, the Bundesliga champions might sanction a sale after the World Cup if their demands are met. Conte has the knack of reviving fortunes if he is given the right kind of players, and Choupo-Moting could be that missing piece for Tottenham.
