Tottenham Hotspur want to bolster their squad in January, with Antonio Conte identifying Kyle Walker-Peters as a target.
According to a report by 90min, Antonio Conte is looking to bring in a quality right-back and a backup forward, when the transfer window reopens in January. To that end, the Tottenham manager has set his sights on 25-year-old Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
The north Londoners have made an impressive start to the season, and they are currently fourth in the Premier League table. A couple of intelligent additions in January could help them to finish the season on high and end their trophy drought.
The report adds that Conte wants to improve his full-back options. And the Tottenham boss is keeping tabs on players like Kyle Walker-Peters, Adama Traore and Max Aarons. Spurs currently have Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal as their right-back options, and both players have been underwhelming so far.
Furthermore, Tottenham signed Djed Spence from Middlesbrough during the summer transfer window. But the player is yet to start a single game in the Premier League. It seems that the Italian manager does not rate Spence highly or is unconvinced of the player’s quality right now.
Bringing in a quality right-back will improve Tottenham substantially, and it remains to be seen whether the Londoners can sign someone like Walker-Peters midway through the season. The 25-year-old is a former Tottenham player and knows the club well. He could settle in quickly and make an immediate impact upon his return.
Southampton have had a dismal campaign so far, and Spurs could take advantage of their problems and lure the defender back to London. Tottenham also showed interest in re-signing the 25-year-old in the summer.
Meanwhile, a backup forward is on Conte’s radar as well. Memphis Depay is reportedly a player Tottenham are keeping tabs on. The Dutch attacker has fallen out of favour at Barcelona, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regular first-team football.
A move to Tottenham could help him get his career back on track. The Dutchman scored 13 goals last season, and his versatility will be a bonus for Spurs if they sign him. He can play anywhere across the front three. He has asked Barcelona to terminate his contract ahead of the January transfer window.
