La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly considering signing 23-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Serie A giants Napoli.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring in a top-class striker in the January transfer window. But signing the 23-year-old striker from Serie A giants Napoli will be improbable.

Victor Osimhen has come leaps and bounds since joining Napoli from LOSC Lille in a big-money move over two years ago. The Nigerian international initially struggled to get going at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. But he has not looked back since finding his feet, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A.

The 23-year-old has not been at his best this season but has still managed a superb tally of nine goals and three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. And Osimhen’s exploits at the Serie A club have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Real Madrid might have preferred to wait until the summer transfer window to sign a new striker. But Karim Benzema’s fitness issues are forcing Carlo Ancelotti to ask for a signing in the January transfer window. So even though the Merengues do not usually dip their toes in the market in the winter, Benzema’s woes might force their hand.

Erling Haaland is reportedly the priority target for Real Madrid to replace Benzema in the coming years. But the Norwegian striker is not leaving Manchester City for at least another season. Another striker on Real Madrid’s radar is Gabriel Jesus. But the Brazilian international will unlikely leave Arsenal anytime soon.

Osimhen has thus emerged as a viable target for Los Blancos. However, with Napoli leading the way in Serie A, the Partenopei will unlikely sell the 23-year-old striker. So Real Madrid might need a makeshift option like Rodrygo Goes to cover for Benzema for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Real Madrid might be looking to the January transfer window to make necessary signings. But the reigning La Liga champions are unlikely to be busy this winter. However, it will be interesting to see if Osimhen arrives from Serie A club Napoli at any point next year.
