Tottenham starlet Bryan Gil could be on his way back to La Liga, with Real Sociedad reportedly back in for the talented 21-year-old winger.

The future of Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil continues to be a topic of discussion. According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Spaniard is now the subject of interest from Real Sociedad over a possible move back to his native Spain next year.

Bryan Gil joined Tottenham from Sevilla in the summer of 2021 in a deal worth €25 million excluding add-ons, with Erik Lamela also moving the other way, although his Spurs career has yet to take off.

The Spaniard, who made his name in a loan spell at Eibar, is still unable to force his way into Antonio Conte’s plans, seeing just 42 minutes of footballing action this season, with Dejan Kulusevski, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Ryan Sessegnon and Lucas Moura all ahead of him in the pecking order for a couple of wing spots at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Overall, he has made just 25 senior appearances for the Spurs and is yet to score for the club. He has managed one assist in 792 minutes of football. These figures are less important for a player that has often been kept on the bench; despite nine Premier League appearances for the club, he has recorded just 92 minutes of action.

After being hardly played for the North Londoners in his first six months at the club, he spent the second part of last season on loan at Los Che, where he was a valuable addition despite not being an integral part of the first team.

It was generally expected that the four-time capped Spanish international winger Bryan Gil would make another temporary return to La Liga in 2022/23. A deadline-day loan back to Valencia was mooted, but the transfer window closed without an agreement. Gil remains at Spurs for the time being, although he does not appear to be in the club’s immediate plans.

But with his stock still high in Spain, he has no shortage of suitors. Valencia, for one, are contemplating revisiting their interest in re-signing Gil in the upcoming January window. But a return to the Mestalla is not his only option.

Real Sociedad have also set their sights on him since the summer transfer market, where they tried the loan the player but withdrew due to Tottenham’s unclear stance and opted to sign Ander Barrenetxea, who has struggled with fitness issues this season.

The Basque club have shown some real ambition in the market this past summer. They signed highly-coveted Takefuso Kubo, Mohamed-Ali Cho, and Umar Sadiq in a bid to secure Champions League places this season.

With them also in the Europa League and wanting to compete on all fronts, including the Copa del Rey, they will require even better quality squad depth, especially in attacking areas, with Sadiq out for the season with an ACL injury.

As a versatile winger, Bryan Gil might just offer a solution. Gil moving to San Sebastián is a no-brainer from the player’s perspective in order to gain more regular minutes. However, it’s hard to imagine Spurs letting him leave unless they bring another body through the door in his position if their late pursuit of Dan James is anything to go by.
