Chelsea have targeted Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo as they eye a summer overhaul to rebuild the squad.
As per Give Me Sport, Chelsea are aiming to make Moises Caicedo their marquee signing in the next summer. They are in definite need of some midfield reinforcements and have identified the youngster as a top target.
Chelsea replaced Thomas Tuchel with former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Graham Potter. So it is pretty obvious the English manager would love to reunite with some of the players he used to train at the Amex Stadium.
The Blues already secured the service of Marc Cucurella’s service before Potter’s arrival and are now expected to raid their fellow Premier League club again to secure a move for the 21-year-old.
Caicedo arrived in February 2021 and took very little time to establish his authority at the Premier League club following a short loan stint in Belgium. The midfield enforcer is one of the most exciting talents to have impressed this season, and Brighton will only be entertaining offers if they are guaranteed of a hefty fee.
As per recent reports, the Seagulls would demand £85 million to part ways with the player, and only few clubs in the world have that kind of spending power. Manchester United had been interested in Caicedo but were late in making a decision, and Brighton snapped the player in 2021.
The Red Devils are still feeling the urge to revamp their midfield and might make a second attempt in reviving their interest. Having already splashed the money this summer it would be hard for them to spend huge amounts on a single player as they have multiple issues to address.
Chelsea are engaged in contract negotiations with both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante. But there has not been any positive outcome. The Blues might thus have to alter their approach in a bid to secure the duo’s long-term futures.
Chelsea usually do not offer long-term contracts to players in their thirties and might need to take a step back as both the players will be able to negotiate terms with other clubs in January. Caicedo’s stock could further rise after the World Cup as the midfielder is destined to be a part of Ecuador’s squad. With Chelsea now viewing him as priority, it will be interesting to see if a move materialises.
