Manchester City have entered the competition for Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo who is also being monitored by Newcastle United and Arsenal.

As per tribal football, Manchester City are interested in Benfica defender Alejandro Grimaldo who also has attracted interest from Newcastle United and Arsenal.

City’s have a compact defensive lineup but the absence of an experienced name on the left side of the defence has complicated Pep Guardiola’s decision-making.

Joao Cancelo has mostly filled in the left-back department while Nathan Ake has also deputised in some games. The manager does have a left back in Sergio Gomez but the 22-year-old is still acclimatising to the manager’s playing style and might need some more time to get used to his system.

Grimaldo’s contract is up for expiry next summer and Benfica might agree to a cut-price deal in January to avoid losing him for free. Having risen through the Barcelona academy Guardiola would be well versed in his potential and should approve a transfer.

Juventus have also been in touch with his entourage and are ready to make a formal offer for the player. The Bianconeri are expected to undergo a rapid overhaul following their struggle this season and they might convince the player to sign a pre-contract with the player in January.

Newcastle’s brilliant season has laid bare the need for an additional left back as Eddie Howe has helped the team in breaching the top four this season. Howe is very keen to land Grimaldo and he might have an advantage as he and the player share the same agent which might be a big plus point in the transfer.

Mikel Arteta wants more competition in the squad and will intensify his search for a new left-back. The Gunners have defied all the odds this campaign and are leading the Premier League table after 12 games. City have already shown they can attract the big names as they did with Erling Haaland in the summer. The reigning English champions are a force to reckon with and their superior performance in recent times could tempt Grimaldo to test himself under strict conditions in the Premier League.
