Everton and Newcastle United are reportedly still monitoring Chelsea striker Armando Broja in case of a loan deal, despite facing defeat in their summer pursuits.

Despite recently signing a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge, Armando Broja is being closely watched by Premier League sides Everton and Newcastle United. That is according to CBS Sports Golazo journalist Ben Jacobs, who claims the Premier League duo are keeping a keen eye on the Chelsea striker in case he becomes available for a loan move in January.

Broja is among several youngsters alongside Connor Gallagher to have received some crucial playing time since new coach Graham Potter’s arrival. The 21-year-old has 14 Premier League and UEFA Champions League outings under his belt and looks to be settling in a more prominent role at West London.

Everton and Newcastle were amongst a host of Premier League clubs to have made attempts to sign Broja from Chelsea in the summer. The Albanian international attracted many suitors after an impressive 2021/22 campaign on loan at Southampton, where he scored nine goals in 38 appearances. Prior to that, he also had a successful spell in the Eredivise, scoring 12 in 34 competitive outings for Vitesse.

However, Everton and Newcastle’s chances of landing the prodigious striker on a permanent basis were dashed when Broja signed a new six-year contract at Stamford Bridge to put the rumours about his future to bed. However, according to Ben Jacobs, the Chelsea man is still subject to loan interest from Everton and Newcastle.

Despite bringing Neal Maupay from Brighton in the summer, it appears Everton boss Frank Lampard is still keen on adding to his mostly misfiring attacking contingent at Goodison Park. Only three clubs have scored fewer goals than the Toffees in the Premier League this season (11).

Furthermore, if Dominic Calvert-Lewin picks up another injury, Lampard will be left with just Maupay and Salomon Rondon as natural options, with the latter also likely to be offloaded in the upcoming transfer window. Broja will be an excellent acquisition if Everton can lure Chelsea into loaning him midway through the season.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are already jam-packed in the striker department, having signed Alexander Isak in a blockbuster move last summer. Chris Wood and talisman Callum Wilson are other potent options in front of goal. So, it is highly doubtful they would like to add another striker into the mix, and that too only on a loan deal.

That said, Broja seems to be pleased with putting pen to paper on a new deal and staying at the club that he clearly admires. It looks like it would take a significant swing in Chelsea’s stance to let Broja go on loan in January unless they absolutely break the transfer market, but this time for attackers. Anyway, if he were to leave, it is safe to say he would not be short of suitors.
