Arsenal and Newcastle United could battle it out for Ben Brereton Diaz, with the forward available on a free transfer in the summer.

According to The Sun, Arsenal and Newcastle United are among the clubs ready to compete for Ben Brereton Diaz in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old striker could have been available on a cut-price deal in January, but Blackburn Rovers are keen to have him on board.

Blackburn Rovers owners Venkys are keen for Ben Brereton Diaz to stay at the club long-term. But the 23-year-old striker has larger ambitions and could depart the Championship side on a free transfer in 2023. Several Premier League clubs are interested, as was the case last summer.

Blackburn are keen to retain the 23-year-old striker beyond January, as they believe his goals could help push for a promotion into the top flight. For that reason, they are willing to take their chances and probably see him depart on a free transfer.

While they have offered him a lucrative new contract, the 23-year-old striker will decide when the season ends. Brereton Diaz will be a potential free agent, thus making him an attractive target for many Premier League sides.

Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Everton, and Fulham have been keen on signing him. And the report from The Sun insists Arsenal and Newcastle United have also entered the race for the Blackburn striker. On a brilliant run of form, the Magpies may seek attacking reinforcements in the January window as they look to push for a top-four place.

Currently, Callum Wilson is on top form but may need an alternate goalscorer to take the burden. Brereton Diaz could be a good bet to help them push for the top four places.

Regarding Arsenal’s interest, Mikel Arteta reiterated the need to add more firepower. The Gunners’ boss is keen to bring in a few wide attackers. He may look at players with versatility, like Brereton Diaz.

Arsenal’s primary objective is to bring a cover for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. In the current order, Brereton Diaz would prove to be a better cover than Reiss Nelson or Marquinhos. He may not have the experience of the Premier League, but he is a rising star in the Championship.

As things stand, a January move may be out of the question. However, in the summer, he could be an attractive option for clubs looking at free agents, including Arsenal and Newcastle.
