Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz.
According to The Sun, Premier League side Crystal Palace are interested in securing the services of Blackburn Rovers ace Ben Brereton Diaz in 2023.
The striker came through the ranks at Manchester United, Stoke City and Nottingham Forest before making his senior bow for the Tricky Trees. He spent two years at Forest before moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2019 on a permanent deal. And he has never looked back since.
Brereton Diaz has emerged as a prolific goalscorer and is set to see out his contract at Ewood Park. This has put several clubs, including Crystal Palace, on alert. The Eagles are putting together a promising young side but lack a reliable go-getter to lead the line.
Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, the 23-year-old has 39 goals and 13 assists from 144 games for the Rovers. While the numbers might not seem too impressive, it is only over the last two seasons that he has established himself as a goal machine.
Diaz has scored 30 goals and made four assists in his last 53 Championship games. He continues to impress and is the top scorer in the English second flight this season. Blackburn, for their part, are keen to offer the player fresh terms. However, they are no closer to reaching an agreement.
Crystal Palace lack a striker who can be relied upon following the sale of Christian Benteke in the summer. Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Mateta make up the numbers at Selhurst Park but have struggled to find the back of the net consistently.
Patrick Vieira has put together a young and exciting midfield consisting of Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. Bringing in the right player to finish off their goalscoring opportunities could prove to be a game-changer.
A good dribbler, Brereton Diaz is clinical when through on goal and is also a capable header of the ball. However, he is far from the finished product and could do with proper guidance to take his career to the next level. Vieira has proven himself capable of nurturing youth and could be the right man to get the best out of Diaz.
For someone mobile, Diaz will fit in well at Selhurst Park. His ability to dovetail between the attack and midfield and also find space to run into could see him thrive in the Premier League. With plenty of other clubs in the fray, it remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace will act fast to land their man. Meanwhile, the Eagles also have other strikers on their radar, including M’Bala Nzola.
