Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Facundo Torres ahead of a January approach for the Orlando City winger after extensively scouting him.

According to London Evening Standard, Arsenal are lining up a January move for Orlando City attacker Facundo Torres. The Uruguayan has emerged on Mikel Arteta’s shortlist among other targets, with the Gunners’ scout Toni Lima’s extensively scouting of the 22-year-old South American winger.

Arsenal are keen on reinforcing their squad with quality players ahead of the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta has steered the squad to the summit of the Premier League table and will need support to back a probable title challenge in the coming months.

Arteta has already addressed the concerns in the squad, particularly with the depth in quality. Arsenal tried to bring in a few wingers in the summer as covers for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The former’s position is considered pressing, and Arsenal might enter the market this winter.

Yeremy Pino’s name has emerged again recently, along with others like Myhkaylo Mudryk, as primary January targets. The former might be an achievable option for Arsenal, but pursuing the latter could prove tricky.

Mudryk reportedly carries a €100 million price tag on his head, which may prevent Arsenal from chasing him. Hence, there are new links over a possible January move with another player in Facundo Torres. Arsenal fans will remember the 22-year-old South American winger from the pre-season tour of the USA.

Having joined Orlando City in a big move last January, Torres has become a fan favourite at the MLS club. He also scored against Arsenal in the pre-season. And the north Londoners have kept a watch on the 22-year-old’s progress.

With the support of data metrics, Arsenal feel Torres could be the right fit in Arteta’s squad. Moreover, scout Toni Lima has personally watched the winger in the MLS and given a glowing account of his findings.

Arsenal could accelerate talks with Orlando City and try to agree with the MLS side and the player’s representatives. Torres may not be of optimal quality, unlike Pino or Mudryk. But the 22-year-old South American attacker has the attributes to succeed at a big club like Arsenal.
