Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is reportedly waiting for Barcelona to submit an offer before he takes a call on his future.

According to a report from the Spanish publication SPORT, Jorginho is on Barcelona’s radar. And the Catalan giants are hoping to sign the 30-year-old Chelsea midfielder on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Jorginho has established himself as a key player for Chelsea since arriving from Napoli. And it will be interesting to see if the Blues are willing to let him leave in the summer. There have been rumours of a potential contract extension, and it remains to be seen whether the two parties can come to an agreement soon.

SPORT claims that Barcelona have already held tentative transfer talks with the player’s agent Joao Santos. And Jorginho has assured the Catalan giants that he will wait until the transfer proposal from the Blaugrana before taking a final decision on his Chelsea future.

Therefore, it is fair to assume that the player is open to joining Barcelona in the near future. That contradicts recent comments by Jorginho’s agent, who said he will prioritise remaining at Chelsea.

Losing a player of his quality and experience on a free transfer would be a massive blow for Chelsea. And the Blues must do everything in their power to agree on an extension with him as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Jorginho is not the only player who could leave the west London club on a free transfer. French international N’Golo Kante is also nearing the end of his deal at Stamford Bridge and could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

The Italian international will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs as soon as the January transfer window opens. So Chelsea will have to move quickly if they want to tie Jorginho down to a new contract.

At 30, this could be Jorginho’s final opportunity to bag a lucrative contract. And Chelsea might have to offer him a pay rise to convince him to sign an extension. Meanwhile, Barcelona are in need of a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets. And while Jorginho is not an option for the future, he could be a quality alternative for the next few years.
