La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly fallen behind PSG in the race to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Serie A giants Lazio.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid and AC Milan are behind Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Ligue 1 champions are ready to offer €80 million to sign the Lazio midfielder. But the Serie A giants want €100 million to part ways with the Serbian international.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has come leaps and bounds since joining Lazio from KRC Genk in August 2015. One of the best midfielders in Serie A, the 27-year-old is a pivotal figure for the Italian club. And he has started the 2022/23 season strongly, amassing five goals and seven assists in 16 appearances across all competitions.
But the Serbian international will enter the final 18 months of his Lazio contract at the turn of the year. So the Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over Milinkovic-Savic’s future, although they are protecting his value by slapping a €100 million price tag. And the situation has alerted Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Real Madrid will likely enter the market for a midfielder in the 2023 summer transfer window. That is because Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are in the twilight of their respective careers. While Real Madrid will likely look to hand Kroos and Modric new contracts, they must lay a succession plan down for the duo.
Milinkovic-Savic is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, with the Serb’s ability to score goals making him an appealing prospect. But the reigning La Liga champions have fallen behind PSG in the race to sign the Lazio midfielder. That is because Les Parisiens are ready to offer €80 million to sign the 27-year-old.
PSG bolstered the midfield unit by signing Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler, and Vitinha in the summer transfer window. But Luis Campos is still eager to add more midfielders to the PSG squad, bringing Milinkovic-Savic into the equation.

PSG’s potential offer worth €80 million will still fall short of the €100 million price tag set by Lazio. But Les Parisiens and Real Madrid will likely be in healthier positions to negotiate a lower fee due to Milinkovic-Savic’s contract situation. It will be interesting to see if the Serbian midfielder leaves Lazio after over seven years in Serie A.
