Newcastle United are reportedly confident of retaining star playmaker Bruno Guimaraes amid recent interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Newcastle United are increasingly confident of keeping hold of 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes despite the growing outside interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea. That’s according to 90min, who claims the Magpies will not entertain any offers, even with a ridiculous nine-figure fee, for their highly-coveted midfielder and are planning to offer him a new deal soon in order to fend off his suitors.

The Magpies are flying high at the moment and have moved into the Champions League spots after last Sunday’s 2-1 victory away to Tottenham. Excellent recruitment has played a big part in their recent success under Eddie Howe.

They have brought in a nice blend of personnel, including some incredible value-for-money Premier League tried-and-tested players like Nick Pope, Chris Wood, Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, and Dan Burn, as well as some top-notch talents like Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.

However, it is the winter signing of Brazilian holding midfielder Bruno Guimaraes that has proved to be a game-changing coup and had a transformational impact on Howe’s midfield. The all-action midfielder — who is a complete package capable of operating anywhere and in any midfield role — has proven a revelation for Newcastle United, establishing himself as the cornerstone of their new era.

Despite mostly plying his trade in a defensive midfield spot, the South American sensation has already scored seven goals and provided three assists in just 27 games across all competitions for the club as of yet, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to impact games at both ends of the pitch thanks to his supreme elite-level quality on the ball and battle-hardened grit, work ethic, and determination to win the ball back.

Without a doubt, the eight-capped Brazilian international is one of, if not, the top-performing central midfielders in the Premier League. And to say Newcastle fans absolutely adore the 24-year-old would be a big understatement; with chants, flags, and banners, he shares a very positive bond with the fans. He’s already a cult hero amongst the supporters.

Talks of a new deal for the dazzling Brazilian have gained momentum in recent weeks. Rumours of the club offering Guimaraes a brand new contract on improved terms should not be surprising considering how well he has been performing pretty much ever since arriving on Tyneside, and with the interest of Premier League big guns ramping up, the Magpies would do well by tying him down to a long-term deal sooner rather than later.

Chelsea, for one, are apparently considering making an offer for the Newcastle playmaker in the upcoming January transfer window as they look to replenish their midfield ranks with superstar material, with both N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho entering the final year of their current deals while contract talks have stalled in recent weeks.

The same goes for Liverpool, who are in desperate need of a major midfield overhaul with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara not looking at the races amidst constant injury crisis in that department. Luring Guimaraes away from St James’ Park, though, could be difficult. Newcastle will be under little pressure to sell even if formal bids were to be lodged.
