AS Roma have emerged as a surprise suitor for Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who will likely leave the club in 2023.

According to Fichajes, AS Roma might be one of the potential destinations for Cristiano Ronaldo if he is to leave Manchester United. There have been severe doubts about his imminent future, and there is a possibility the 37-year-old might decide to end his United stint prematurely.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to team training after missing the Chelsea match as a punishment for his behaviour during the Tottenham Hotspur clash. The talismanic forward could be slotted straight into the starting lineup when Manchester United host Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Portuguese attacker, who seems to be unhappy after Manchester United blocked his move in the summer, might try again to put a full stop to his journey in January. The Red Devils are ready to let go of the former Real Madrid superstar, but clubs might not be ready to accommodate the player as it could affect their plans both financially and technically.

Ronaldo’s enormous wages could be a stumbling block in his transfer. But it is suggested he is ready to take a substantial pay cut to make himself available for suitors, one of them being AS Roma.

Roma are currently being managed by Jose Mourinho, who happens to have a pretty fruitful relationship with Ronaldo from their time at Real Madrid. Mourinho prefers to have proven match-winners in his team. And Ronaldo’s envious record speaks for himself. Having won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, the Portuguese tactician was expected to bring in more stability this campaign.

But a number of erratic performances have put AS Roma in a difficult position. And Mourinho would definitely be eyeing some much-needed reinforcements in January.

Manchester United will likely demand a meagre fee should any club come calling for Ronaldo. The chances of a mutual termination have also been discussed. And the Red Devils are ready to pay compensation in a bid to accelerate the deal.

AS Roma might find it difficult to afford Ronaldo’s wages. But they should follow the example of Juventus, who made a windfall following the signing of the player from Real Madrid in 2018.
