Diogo Costa is attracting attention from Newcastle United who will compete with Manchester United for the FC Porto goalkeeper.

As per Portuguese daily Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Newcastle United could engage in stiff competition with Manchester United for the service of Diogo Costa.

Newcastle United’s new owner already showed their desire to pay the right price for the right player. And they might revisit their attempts next summer. Nick Pope has shined between the sticks since arriving from Burnley. But a lack of competition in the goalkeeping department could see them suffering in the long run.

Karl Darlow is expected to leave Newcastle United next summer, and Loris Karius has only signed a short-term contract. Martin Dubravka joined Manchester United on a season-long loan deal, and there is an option to make the deal permanent.

Costa’s performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League saw him receiving plaudits from all over the place for his effort in the goal. And the Portuguese international’s stock is rising with each day passing.

The 23-year-old has peaked relatively at a very tender age and is poised to get sharper as he gains more experience on the road. Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo currently represent Portugal, and Manchester United could easily use their players to convince Costa to make the next big step in his career.

Newcastle have been on the heels of Premier League biggies, with their performances speaking for themselves. The Magpies have some big results under their belt including a win over the high-flying Tottenham Hotspur. And their supporters are placing big bets on their team this term.

Costa’s departure could make FC Porto considerably richer in 2023. The Portuguese giants could demand in excess of €50 million to part ways with the keeper as the 23-year-old is slated to be Portugal’s next future superstar in making.

Should Newcastle manage to grab a top-four place this season, they will invest heavily in the summer to hand their manager a squad worthy of competing in the European competition. But the competition from Manchester United makes things interesting.
