Newcastle United will be shifting their interest to Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir, who also happens to be a target for Barcelona.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle United are ready to prioritise a deal for Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir, also a target for Barcelona. The Magpies have been in stupendous form and have breached the top four with an emphatic win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Since the introduction of Eddie Howe at St. James’ Park, Newcastle have been on an upward trajectory. And this season, they have turned out to be the party poopers for the Premier League biggies, with Tottenham Hotspur being the latest scalp.

Encouraging results against both Manchester clubs have definitely put them as a contender, while their 2-1 victory over Spurs has only cemented their belief.

To strengthen their position more, Eddie Howe wants some additional players. And Fekir’s name has popped up as it stands. Newcastle’s interest in Fekir is not new as they tried to raid Real Betis in the summer. But a deal could not materialise.

They were ready to splash a big sum and should be ready with their kitty in January as Betis are expected to receive a few proposals for the World Cup winner.

Liverpool came close to signing the 29-year-old back in 2018. But the deal collapsed at the very last moment, and his dream of moving to the Premier League fell through.

Fekir later admitted his agent was to be blamed for the failed transfer. And the 29-year-old should be ready if a chance arrives again. Barcelona are also very keen on keeping the player in Spain as their intention to bring in a creative midfielder failed in the summer.

The Blaugrana looked certain to land Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva but could not put up a decent offer. Barcelona will now pinpoint their focus on Fekir, who only extended his contract at the start of this year.

A new four-year deal was the reward for his consistent performance on the pitch. And it will take a huge amount to convince the fellow La Liga club to sanction his departure to Barcelona. Newcastle are ready to ramp up their efforts, and they might have to shell out a few extra million to beat Barcelona to his signature.
