Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Chelsea star Kai Havertz who continues to struggle in Blue.

According to Simon Phillips via Caught Offside, Premier League champions Manchester City are interested in securing the services of Chelsea star Kai Havertz.

The German international made a then-club-record switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020. He has since made 106 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and assisting 14 more. While his numbers aren’t the worst, it is fair to say that Havertz has largely struggled to fulfil expectations.

One of the standout moments of his time at Chelsea came in the 2021 UEFA Champions League final, where he scored the winner against Man City. Pep Guardiola’s side now could be set to offer him a chance at redemption and get a largely promising career back on track.

Pep Guardiola’s side is one of the finest in England and Europe. They are currently rebuilding the roster and setting themselves up for dominance over the next few years. The Catalan is also famous for playing a false nine and it is something he could experiment with Havertz.

Man City went big last summer and brought in Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. The former is the club’s infallible goalscorer while the latter offers pace and the ability to run into space. Adding Havertz to the roster will give the English champions an alternative method of attack.

Good on the ball and excellent in the air, Havertz has the raw minerals needed to develop into a top attacker. Still just 23, the German has the best years of his career ahead of him and will do well to work under a manager who can help him achieve glory.

Graham Potter’s arrival has done little to boost Havertz’s form. He has scored just once in eight appearances under the former Brighton boss and was left as an unused substitute on the bench against Manchester United at the weekend.

A switch at the end of the season could be the catalyst the 23-year-old needs to rekindle his career. However, it would appear unlikely that Chelsea will sanction a move to a direct rival. A strong World Cup with Germany could also act as an audition of sorts, giving clubs the chance to take a closer look at his potential.

Whether or not Havertz continues to play for Chelsea, he will always have a spot in the club’s history books thanks to his heroics at the Estadio do Dragao in 2021.
