Chelsea are interested in bringing 19-year-old Dynamo Moscow star Arsen Zakharyan to Stamford Bridge, but a move could prove complex.

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea retain an interest in Russian international Arsen Zakharyan, having seen a move break down in the summer. The 19-year-old remains an exciting prospect for top clubs. And the Blues are readying another attempt to sign the Dynamo Moscow attacking midfielder.

Arsen Zakharyan is widely considered an exciting prospect in Europe. A move away from Dynamo Moscow could be on the cards in January. The 19-year-old Russian international may have moved shores in the summer, but the sanctions on Russian players complicated his attempts to leave the club.

Amidst the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, FIFA sanctioned Russian football, which prevented certain players from joining foreign clubs. It also resulted Russia’s expulsion from the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Hence, Russian players are in limbo and figuring out a backdoor to get their favoured moves across the continent.

The 19-year-old Russian international is trying to get Armenian citizenship. He recently withdrew from a Russian national side call-up for a friendly through injury. The Armenian FA have denied contact so far, which puts Zakharyan’s switch on hold.

Zakharyan is hoping those sanctions cool down in the coming months, so he could make a favourable switch away from Dynamo Moscow. Chelsea lodged an offer in the summer, but a move stalled due to the aforementioned blockages.

But the Blues reportedly retain an interest in the 19-year-old Russian international ahead of the January transfer window. Chelsea are willing to meet his release clause and conduct business with Dynamo Moscow. While things have not changed from a geo-political standpoint, the Premier League giants are set to try their best.

New owner Todd Boehly is searching the market for the best young talents. The American businessman has embarked on building an exciting team for the future. And the signings of Carney Chukwuemeka and Omari Hutchinson in addition to the retention of Armando Broja signals Chelsea’s intent.

Adding a player like Zakharyan would further strengthen their future squad. There are other players on Chelsea’s radar as well, and they will attempt to sign them in the next windows. For now, the situation with the 19-year-old Dynamo Moscow ace remains complex, one that he hopes to resolve in the coming months.
