Chelsea set to open talks to sign Denzel Dumfries

Chelsea are ready to pursue their interest in Denzel Dumfries as they will enquire about his availability in the coming months.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Chelsea will initiate talks with Inter Milan to determine his value. The Dutch defender has hit a new high since his arrival in Italy, and the Blues are very keen to add him to their squad.

With Reece James out for a prolonged period, Graham Potter has tried a number of combinations in the last few matches. But the Chelsea manager wants a more experienced man for the right flank. And Dumfries has thus emerged as a viable target.

Replacing Achraf Hakimi was a big task for Inter Milan. But the Dutch international has proven to be a bargain buy. And the Nerazzurri are now are set for a windfall should they agree on a deal for the player.

A lucrative offer could force Inter’s hands as their current financial state is not in good condition. And Chelsea are very keen to take the discussions to the next level.

Clubs are circling around for his signature, and Manchester United could also test Inter’s resolve with an interesting offer for the right-back. Erik ten Hag has instructed the recruitment team to find some competition for Diogo Dalot, and Dumfries has been their preferred choice.

Chelsea’s relationship with Inter has been pretty strong. And they could use Romelu Lukaku to sweeten the deal. The Belgian striker is currently on a loan deal at San Siro, and talks of extending his loan have taken place.

Chelsea are also planning to offload Lukaku permanently. And with Inter being his only suitor, the Blues might want to take this opportunity to ease their situation. But a move in January seems possible.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are also considering the option to bring the player to the Allianz Arena. Their monopoly in the Bundesliga could be on the verge of collapse as they have shown vulnerability this season.

But Chelsea remain in the pole position, and an offer seems imminent once the winter transfer window opens in January. There will be significant negotiations, and it remains to be seen if both clubs manage to arrive at an amicable solution for the final price for the Dutch defender.
