Chelsea are the frontrunners to sign RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, with a potential deal worth £96 million on the cards.
According to Give Me Sport via Pete O’Rourke, Chelsea are the frontrunner for the signature of Christopher Nkunku. Previous reports suggested the Blues had already brokered a deal with RB Leipzig, which may still have some truth to the story. The Premier League side wants to get ahead of the queue and bring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.
Christopher Nkunku is a player many clubs crave in the current market. The Frenchman’s performance last season attracted the interest of top sides, but he remained with RB Leipzig and signed a new deal.
The new deal reportedly has a release clause of over £52 million, although it will be active next summer. At that price tag, many clubs will join the hunt for the 24-year-old French international, which Chelsea may not want.
The Blues looked to sign him in the summer but failed in their attempts to convince Leipzig. The new deal provides them with an opportunity to bring him, but things could get complicated if other big clubs attempt an approach.
Liverpool are also keen, but Chelsea seems to have taken the box seat in pursuing Nkunku. The attacker would flourish further in Chelsea’s system and under Graham Potter. He makes them stronger next season, capable of mounting a title challenge against Manchester City and Liverpool.
