Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian whizkid Andrey Santos, who is a target for Barcelona as well.

According to a report from Fichajes, Premier League giants Manchester City have now joined the race to sign Andrey Santos from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama. The Premier League champions will face competition from Spanish outfit Barcelona.

The 18-year-old Brazilian whizkid has attracted a lot of attention from Europe because of his splendid performances in domestic football. And it will be interesting to see where Santos ends up.

Apparently, the player has been in the crosshairs of Barcelona for a while. And club director Jordi Cruyff is extremely keen on securing his services. It remains to be seen whether he can fend off competition from cash-rich Manchester City and sign Santos in the coming windows.

Santos is a central midfielder who can operate in a defensive role as well. He has managed to score seven goals across all competitions this season. Manchester City are certainly far more resourceful compared to Barcelona, who are going through a bit of a financial crunch. Furthermore, Manchester City have a more ambitious project, with the world’s best manager at the helm.

Pep Guardiola is widely regarded as the best manager of his generation, and he has proven himself across multiple leagues and won major trophies consistently. Any player would be tempted to work with the Manchester City manager, and Guardiola could help Santos develop into a top-class player in the future. 

Manchester City have a knack for investing in talented South American players, and they have brought in players like Gabriel Jesus in the past. The Premier League champions recently signed Julian Alvarez as well, and the Argentine has looked quite promising in his cameos so far.

Santos will hope to reach the very top. And a move to Manchester City will certainly provide him with the opportunity to do so. The Citizens have unparalleled facilities which will aid the young midfielder’s development. And working with a manager like Guardiola can only accelerate his growth.

Furthermore, the 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder will be able to work alongside world-class players like Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne, which can only broaden his learning curve. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can usurp Manchester City in the race to sign Santos.
