Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans and could make a move for the player.

According to eminent journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham are vying for a deal for Youri Tielemans and could test the waters in January. Tielemans’s availability alerted a number of clubs in the summer but no one came close to securing his signature.

Tottenham are in a strong position in the Premier League table, and they are getting more competent with each passing game. Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte combined pretty aggressively in the summer as they signed as many as seven players.

But only Yves Bissouma was brought in to strengthen the midfield area, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder struggling to adapt to life in north London. Therefore, signing another midfielder might be a priority in the coming window.

Tielemans will be a free agent next summer, but Leicester will be looking to recoup some of the fee they paid to AS Monaco if they do offload the player in January. The Foxes are battling to survive relegation and the midfielder’s departure could make their position harder. The 25-year-old has not been at his best this time but does have the calibre to control the midfield with sheer ease if he is given the chance.

Tottenham’s arch-rivals Arsenal were linked with a move for the Belgian midfielder, but that desired bid never came in the summer. And the Gunners also failed to pull off a late move for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on deadline day.

The Tottenham manager could be allotted an emergency fund for reinforcements in January, and Tielemans finally could leave the King Power Stadium to join a better team.

The Belgian international is known for his all-round ability, and his presence should allow Conte to tinker a lot with his combinations. He is tailor-made for the Tottenham manager’s system and would be an instant fit should he arrive.

Leicester would likely grind out as much as they can. But Tielemans’s current contractual situation won’t allow them to negotiate a high price for the player. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.
