Manchester United and Newcastle United are keen to sign Turkish playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Premier League duo Manchester United and Newcastle United are interested in securing the services of Inter Milan ace Hakan Calhanoglu.

The Turkish international moved to the blue and black half of Milan from AC Milan in the summer of 2021. He played a key role in Inter’s Coppa Italia win and has turned up with important goals in several games.

Calhanoglu was the hero earlier this month when the Nerazzurri defeated Barcelona 1-0 at the Giuseppe Meazza. He has proven to be an invaluable player for Simone Inzaghi and has seen his stock rise. It comes as no surprise that Manchester United and Newcastle United are making admiring glances towards him.

Inter Milan’s monetary difficulties are well documented, and it could prove difficult for them to turn down offers, especially if it makes financial sense. A playmaker in his prime, a price of around €25 million-€28 million is fair for someone of Calhanoglu’s abilities.

He would fit in well at Old Trafford where Erik ten Hag is looking to rebuild a fallen giant. The arrival of Christian Eriksen has given the Red Devils a much-needed playmaking presence in midfield, but the Dane is not a long-term solution. Calhanoglu will not just offer an alternative but can also serve in the role for the next few years.

Add to it his ability on the dead ball, and ten Hag would be landing himself a match-winner. Newcastle United are also a team to watch out for following their recent takeover and should not have an issue forking out the cash.

Eddie Howe is quietly putting together an exciting unit and has already added some fine players to the roster. Bringing in Calhanoglu to play alongside Bruno Guimaraes would give them the x-factor in the middle of the park and make them a much more formidable opposition to go up against.

Inter might have experienced a resurgence of sorts in recent years, but it is debatable how long they can keep it up. A move to England could be what Calhanoglu needs to take on a new challenge in his career. At 28, he is of the ideal age to kickstart a new chapter in his career.
