Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly wage a battle with Barcelona to sign Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva.
According to a report from ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are battling it out for the services of Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva. The 28-year-old has been a key player for Manchester City since joining the club from AS Monaco. And the two European heavyweights are now looking to secure his services.
ESPN are claiming that Manchester City have made it a priority to sign a central midfielder because they are unsure about the long-term futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva. While Silva is a target for PSG and Barcelona, Gundogan is nearing the end of his contract and could leave as a free agent next summer. Interestingly, Gundogan is also a target for Barcelona.
Previously, Pep Guardiola had admitted that Silva was keen on moving away from the club. And so, it will not be surprising if the Portuguese decides to push for a move at the end of the season. He has won multiple trophies in English football and might be keen on proving his quality in a different league now.
PSG certainly have more resources compared to Barcelona. But the Portuguese midfielder has already played in Ligue 1, and he might be keen on a new adventure in Spain now. Barcelona will have to sell Frenkie de Jong to accrue funds for the Silva signing.
It will be interesting to see whether Barcelona can fend off the competition from PSG and secure Silva’s services in the summer.
The Portuguese international would add tireless work ethic, flair, creativity and goals to Xavi Hernandez’s side. Furthermore, he can operate anywhere in the midfield and in the front three. His versatility will be an added bonus for Barcelona if they secure his services.
Silva is likely to replace Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona. The Dutchman will have to be sold for the Blaugrana to afford the Manchester City playmaker. De Jong has been on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs if recent reports are to be believed.
