Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered disgruntled Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix to Catalan giants Barcelona.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona might have the chance to sign Joao Felix in 2023. Jorge Mendes offered the disgruntled Atletico Madrid attacker to the Blaugrana in a recent meeting with Joan Laporta and Mateu Alemany.
Joao Felix raised many eyebrows when he joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in a nine-figure deal. The Portuguese international was a promising attacker in his early days in professional football. But it was still surprising that a club like Atletico Madrid had shelled out €126 million to make him their most expensive signing ever.
While the 22-year-old has shown promising signs at the Wanda Metropolitano, he has made slow progress in the last three years. And Felix has become unsettled at Atletico Madrid this season after becoming a squad option. The youngster was an unused substitute in the recent game versus Club Brugge, which has left him disgruntled.
The player’s uncertain situation has not gone unnoticed either, with several European bigwigs considering signing him. And Felix’s super-agent Jorge Mendes has now offered the young attacker to Atletico Madrid’s rival Barcelona.
Recent reports have also claimed that Barcelona might be interested in the 22-year-old. But Xavi Hernandez’s system does not necessarily cater to Felix’s strengths, as he primarily uses a 4-3-3 formation. So the only way Felix can prosper at Camp Nou will be if he features as a central striker.
The Portuguese international can always remodel himself as an out-and-out striker, considering his age. But Barcelona will still be taking a risk investing in the disgruntled Atletico Madrid attacker. However, his experience in La Liga might help him settle down quickly at Camp Nou.
That said, Atletico Madrid might not be open to dealing with Barcelona, considering Felix remains one of the most promising young attackers in Europe. It is also unclear how Joan Laporta and Mateu Alemany responded to Mendes’s offer. For now, it looks like Barcelona might have an opportunity to sign the disgruntled Portuguese attacker from Atletico Madrid in 2023.
