Chelsea are in the race to sign Konrad Laimer on a free transfer next summer, with the RB Leipzig midfielder a hot prospect in the market.

According to Bild, Chelsea are in contention to secure the signature of Konrad Laimer on a free transfer next summer. The Blues are keen on reshaping their midfield for next season, with the Austrian international seen as a vital part of their rebuild.

Konrad Laimer is one of the many players to have played and excelled for both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig during his career. After making more than 160 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, the Austrian midfielder could be in for a change of scenery, as several top-rated clubs circle.

Laimer’s shrinking contract with Leipzig makes him an exciting prospect in the market, with the midfielder available on a free transfer next summer. Clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United wanted to sign him before the season began, but he stayed put in Germany.

Chelsea are reportedly in contention for the midfielder and could make an approach as early as January. They might also look for a pre-contract agreement in the winter window, as many other teams could hold that approach.

Chelsea entered a pivotal phase with their squad building, as two influential midfielders could depart in the summer. Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are out of contract beyond the current season, with interest rife in the duo. The latter is admired by north London clubs, while the Italian international has suitors from his homeland.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek might remain for the long term, but bringing in new players seems imperative for Todd Boehly and his project. Laimer could thus be a good acquisition for Chelsea in this aspect, while other notable names could also be on the club’s list.

Chelsea are preparing themselves for another big summer window, which may be considered essential for their project. Signings like Laimer and others could elevate their quality, and other big names could be part of their list when the window opens.

For now, Laimer remains with Leipzig, who could also attempt to persuade him to sign a new deal. If he refuses, the midfielder will be one of the sought-after names in the Bosman market next summer.
