Real Madrid will reportedly face stiff competition from Manchester United in the race to sign Milan Skriniar from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Milan Skriniar is the subject of interest from Manchester United over a possible move in a transfer window in 2023. The 27-year-old Inter Milan defender is also a target for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Milan Skriniar has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from Sampdoria over half a decade ago. The Slovakian centre-back had already made waves at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. But his stock has skyrocketed in the last five years as he has been a pivotal figure for the Nerazzurri.

The 27-year-old has turned out over 200 times for Inter Milan, chipping in with 11 goals and four assists. But the Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over Skriniar’s long-term future as he has entered the final year of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The interest from Real Madrid is surprising, considering they signed Antonio Rudiger this past summer. And with the German international settling down well at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Merengues do not need another centre-back. But the situation might change if Nacho refuses to sign a new contract.

Recent reports have claimed that the veteran Spanish defender is considering his Real Madrid future. That might explain Real Madrid’s eagerness to sign Skriniar. But Los Blancos will have to stave off stiff competition from Manchester United for the 27-year-old.

Like Real Madrid, it is unclear why Manchester United might want to sign Skriniar. With Lisandro Martinez stamping his authority in the Premier League and Raphael Varane rediscovering his best form, the Red Devils do not need another central defender. But things might change if Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof agitates for a move after becoming bit-part players.

In addition to Real Madrid and Manchester United, Skriniar is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain. PSG tried to sign the 27-year-old from Inter Milan in the summer, but the Serie A giants managed to keep hold of him. But Skriniar might depart from San Siro if he remains at odds with Inter over signing a new deal.
