Manchester United are eyeing a potential deal for 23-year-old Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi in a bid to strengthen their midfield.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are monitoring Davide Frattesi and want to pursue a move for the highly-rated Italian midfielder. The Red Devils have had their scouts present on a number of occasions to watch the 23-year-old play, and they are quite impressed with his development.

Frattesi joined Sassuolo from AS Roma in 2017 and had a few loan stints as it took time for him to nail down a permanent place in the Sassuolo starting lineup. But this season, he has been an impeccable part of the Italian side and has found the net on two occasions in Serie A.

The 23-year-old was also called up to the Italian squad by Roberto Mancini, and with the Azzurri going through a transition period, he will definitely become a regular quite soon.

Frattesi loves the direct approach, and his hunger and intensity bring a different perspective to the game. He throws a powerful punch around his opponents and does not fear lunging in sharp tackles to win back possessions for his side.

The Italian midfielder has all the qualities to excel in the Premier League, and he has also reiterated his desire to experience the English top flight in his career.

Scott McTominay, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Fred are the current choices in the central midfield department. But Donny van de Beek’s time at Manchester United could be set for a premature end in January amid interest from Leicester City. So there will be plenty of space for Frattesi to display his moves, while his arrival could also help Christian Eriksen in emphasising his attacking game.

A €35 million price tag has been slapped on the player, but Manchester United are confident they can negotiate a much lower valuation. Roma are entitled to have 30% of the sale, so Sassuolo will aim to sell their prized asset to the highest bidder. The Giallorossi are also very keen to bring back their former player, but Sassuolo’s defiant stance has been a big barrier for them.
