Serie A heavyweights Juventus are reportedly keen on signing veteran Spanish defender Jordi Alba from Barcelona.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Calciomercato, Jordi Alba is the subject of interest from Juventus over a possible move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The veteran Spanish defender might leave Barcelona next year after falling down the pecking order at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Jordi Alba spent most of his formative years at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. The Spaniard then grew in stature as a professional footballer at Valencia CF before rejoining Barcelona over a decade ago. Alba has come leaps and bounds since then, establishing himself as one of the club’s all-time greats.

The 33-year-old has started only three of Barcelona’s ten games this season, with Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso usurping him. And Alba had come close to leaving Barcelona in the summer transfer window, but he ended up remaining at Camp Nou. He might now leave the Catalan club for good next year, with Juventus interested in him.

The left-back slot has not been an issue for Juventus for several years, thanks to Alex Sandro. The Brazilian defender has been a pivotal figure for the Bianconeri for many seasons. But his performance levels have regressed considerably in the last couple of campaigns.

According to Calciomercato, 2022/23 will likely be Alex Sandro’s last season with Juventus. And the Serie A giants have compiled a four-man shortlist of left-backs to pursue in the 2023 summer transfer window. One of the players on this list is Jordi Alba, with the Barcelona veteran expected to depart from Camp Nou next summer.

Other left-backs on Juventus’s wishlist are Alejandro Grimaldo, Raphael Guerreiro and Ramy Bensebaini. The trio will be long-term solutions for the Serie A giants, but Alba might be a better candidate to pursue. That is because with Andrea Cambiaso signed as an option for the long run, having the Barcelona defender will be ideal for Juventus.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will hope to get Alba off the books after failing to do so in the summer. It will be interesting to see if the 33-year-old veteran left-back becomes a top target for Juventus in the 2023 summer transfer window.
