AC Milan are reportedly interested in landing Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah and may demand the Blues’ fringe duo in a part-exchange deal involving Rafael Leao next summer.
According to a report by Calciomercato, AC Milan are keeping tabs on Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah. The Rossoneri are set to hold talks with Chelsea over the possibility of acquiring them as a makeweight in a potential Rafael Leao sale, as they look to refresh their squad with players on the periphery at Stamford Bridge.
This is not the first time Pulisic has been linked with AC Milan. There were rumours of the Rossoneri being interested in the former Borussia Dortmund attacker last summer, but nothing ever materialised. Fast forward a year, little has changed for Pulisic given his lack of game time at Chelsea.
The USMNT international has been a bit of a disappointment for the majority of his tenure at Stamford Bridge, despite earlier seeming to be a promising young talent at former club Borussia Dortmund. The 24-year-old was keen to leave Chelsea over the summer, either on a permanent or temporary basis after falling out of favour under former boss Thomas Tuchel.
Reports linked him with moves ranging from Serie A giants Juventus to Premier League outfits Newcastle United and Everton. However, nothing came out of it, as Chelsea blocked all offers that came in for Pulisic to maintain numbers in their senior squad.
The same will not be the case next summer, as the Blues are expected to go on another shopping spree. Chelsea reportedly have a pre-contract agreement to sign RB forward Christopher Nkunku in 2023.
This might open the door for Pulisic to finally leave Stamford Bridge as he looks to revive his faltering career. And AC Milan could well be his destination, with the Rossoneri lacking a quality right-winger. Chalobah, meanwhile, almost joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal in the summer before Chelsea had a late change of mind and decided against his exit at the last minute.
In hindsight, that decision now seems baffling, given that Chelsea finished the summer with the defensive additions of Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Marc Cucurella. This certainly had a detrimental effect on the youngster’s game time this season, with the player making just three appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo does not specify if Pulisic and Chalobah could arrive at the San Siro as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Leao, given Chelsea’s strong interest in the AC Milan star. But he has certainly hinted at a possibility of that happening in future.
