AC Milan are eyeing a move for underperforming Chelsea star Christian Pulisic

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Serie A champions AC Milan are eyeing a potential move for Chelsea star Christian Pulisic in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Rossoneri have one of the finest wingers in Serie A and the Italian top flight’s reigning MVP Rafal Leao in their ranks. The Portuguese international is among the best players in his position on the continent and has attracted attention from several clubs across Europe.

One of the teams in the fray for Leao is Chelsea, who failed with their efforts to land him last summer. Todd Boehly is keen to make a splash in the footballing world and does not appear to have given up on his efforts to bring the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

Paolo Maldini recently admitted that no Milan player is unsellable, and that includes Leao. With Chelsea ready to splash the cash, a high-profile move could be on the cards as early as next January. While Maldini is hopeful that Leao will pen an extension, it is far from set in stone.

The 23-year-old’s sale will leave Milan short of a reliable winger. Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias have struggled to display consistency and are more of a hit-or-miss. Charles De Ketalaere was brought in last summer but is at his best when played centrally. Losing Leao will handicap the Rossoneri frontline and rob them of a dynamic young player.

Chelsea could also offer Milan a solution, in the form of USMNT star Christian Pulisic. The American ace has struggled to impress in London and is far from a regular at the club. He will be keen to secure regular playtime elsewhere, and Milan could offer him an opportunity to do just that.

At 24, Pulisic has plenty of years left in his locker. He has often struggled with injuries, and a move to the slower and less physical Italian top-flight could see him return to his best. More so, with pace to burn, Pulisic could thrive at the San Siro.

Chelsea will have to fork out a king’s ransom to sign Leao and could offer Pulisic in part-exchange to drive down the price. With the Portuguese ace yet to pen a fresh contract extension, a parting of the ways could be the ideal solution for all parties involved.
