Serie A champions AC Milan are interested in securing the services of under-fire Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech.
According to Fichajes, Serie A heavyweights AC Milan are keeping close tabs on Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech as he continues to struggle to impress at Stamford Bridge.
The Moroccan international emerged as a scintillating player while at Ajax, eventually earning himself a move to Chelsea in 2020. He has since made 87 appearances, scoring 14 goals and making ten assists across all competitions.
The 0.16 goal contributions per game at Stamford Bridge pales significantly to the 0.78 he clocked at Ajax. Impressing in the Premier League is not for everyone, and one can argue that Ziyech’s abilities are a poor fit for the English game.
As things stand, Ziyech continues to stagnate in his peak years and could do with a fresh challenge. AC Milan are on the lookout for a right-winger and could give him the opportunity to rewrite his fortunes.
Junior Messias is a dynamic player but is grossly inconsistent. His inability to influence matters on the field, coupled with Alexis Saelemaekers’s injury, has put the Rossoneri in a fix. This could force AC Milan to move for Ziyech once the transfer window opens in January.
Milan have been following Ziyech for a while now and tried unsuccessfully to sign him last summer. Given that the Chelsea playmaker is keen to move on, it could prove to be a fruitful marriage. More so, the Serie A is also a less physical league, meaning Ziyech can make better use of his technical prowess.
Chelsea, for their part, have been after Milan star Rafael Leao, and their interest does not appear to have abated. With the Rossoneri now keen on Ziyech, a player plus cash deal could be something for Todd Boehly and co. to explore. Time will tell whether it is an avenue they are willing to explore.
Ziyech’s contract at Chelsea runs until 2025, and this does give the Blues enough leeway in negotiations. This could see them recoup what they can for a player who has proven to be underwhelming.
AC Milan’s loss to Chelsea last night in the UEFA Champions League showed the lack of firepower in Stefano Pioli’s ranks. With a lot riding on Leao, the Rossoneri’s overdependence on the Portuguese international is clear for all to see. The sooner they resolve it, the better.
