Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 21-year-old Torino defender Wilfried Singo.

According to a report from Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona have identified Ivorian international Wilfried Singo as a key target heading into 2023.

It is no secret that Barcelona will have to bring in a quality right-back at the end of the season. And the Catalan giants have shown interest in a number of players in recent weeks. Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has emerged as a target over a move to Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Arnau Martinez from Girona is thought to be on Barcelona’s radar as well. The latest name on Barcelona’s radar is Wilfried Singo, who has done well for Serie A club Torino recently.

Hector Bellerin and Sergi Roberto will be free agents in the summer of 2023 and Xavi Hernandez will need to bring in reinforcements for the right-back slot soon. Singo is highly-rated in Serie A and has the potential to develop into a quality player for Barcelona.

The 21-year-old defender is in the final year of his contract with Torino. But the Serie A outfit have an option to extend Singo’s deal for another season. It will be interesting to see if they choose to exercise the clause in the coming months.

Torino will not want to lose the talented young defender as a free agent next summer. Therefore, it is fair to assume that the extension is only a matter of time. However, the short-term extension is unlikely to ward off any potential suitors, including Barcelona.

Singo could still very much leave at the end of the season, and the extension will only help Torino recoup some money for the 21-year-old defender. The opportunity to represent a club like Barcelona is a tempting proposition for most players. And Singo is likely to be enticed to move to the Spotify Camp Nou.

It will be interesting to see whether Barcelona will make a move for the defender when the transfer window reopens in January. They might be able to snap the 21-year-old up for a nominal fee with just six months left on his contract at the turn of the year.
