La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg attacking sensation Benjamin Sesko.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in a future transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions are closely monitoring the progress of the 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg attacking sensation.

Benjamin Sesko has come leaps and bounds since joining Red Bull Salzburg from NK Domzale three years ago. The Slovenian wonderkid, who spent his formative years at half a dozen clubs, has found a stable footing in Austria, especially since returning from a stint with FC Liefering last year.

The 19-year-old attacking sensation had enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign and has started the new season strongly. Sesko has four goals and two assists in nine league outings while also making his mark in the UEFA Nations League in the ongoing international break. And Sesko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the advancing years of Karim Benzema. The veteran French striker has been in the form of his life for the last four years, establishing himself as Los Blancos’ talisman since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in July 2018.

But Benzema is well into his thirties and will start declining sooner or later. So Real Madrid will need to lay down a succession plan for the French international, which explains why several young and prodigious strikers have popped up on their radar in the last few months. Some of these options include Youssoufa Moukoko and Endrick, with Sesko also a viable target.

In addition Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United have also set their sights on the 19-year-old Slovenian attacking sensation. But Sesko will not join any of the three suitors next summer as he will leave Red Bull Salzburg and move to sister club RB Leipzig ahead of the 2023/24 season.

So signing Sesko will only be possible in the 2024 summer transfer window, which might work in Real Madrid’s favour unless Benzema endures a sharp decline in the coming two years. Till then, the 19-year-old wonderkid will likely remain on Real Madrid’s radar as he continues to go from strength to strength.
