Manchester City certainly have no shortage of resources, and they can tempt Atalanta into selling the defender during the January transfer window. But after investing in Manuel Akanji in the summer, it is unclear why Manchester City might want to sign Scalvini unless they plan to loan him back to Atalanta.

It seems that Pep Guardiola is building a team for the future, and Manchester City can certainly use a quality young defender like Scalvini. Furthermore, the youngster is likely to be tempted to join a club as big as Manchester City. He will have seen how young players like Phil Foden have developed under the tutelage of Guardiola and will be hoping to follow in their footsteps.

A world-class coach like Guardiola can help the youngster accelerate his development and fulfil his potential at the Etihad. Manchester City have a world-class project and are extremely likely to challenge for all major trophies year in and year out. The opportunity to join such a club is hard to turn down, and Scalvini might be tempted.
