Martin Dubravka has become the sixth summer signing for Manchester United, arriving from Newcastle United on a season-long loan deal.

Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Martin Dubravka on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. The Slovakian shot-stopper arrives from Newcastle United, becoming the Red Devils’ sixth summer signing.

Martin Dubravka joined Newcastle United from Sparta Praha in January 2018 and has been an excellent performer for the Magpies since then. The 33-year-old initially moved to St. James’ Park on loan before Newcastle signed him permanently in the subsequent summer transfer window.

The Slovakian international was consistent in Newcastle United colours, turning out over 100 times for the Tyneside outfit. But Dubravka lost his spot in the team following Nick Pope’s arrival from Burnley earlier this summer. And the experienced goalkeeper has now joined Manchester United.

Manchester United let Dean Henderson join Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2022/23 season after the English international became disgruntled with his situation at Old Trafford. Henderson has settled down well at the newly-promoted Premier League club but might still be in Erik ten Hag’s plans due to David de Gea’s sub-par start to the season.

While the Spanish international has picked up form in the last couple of games, he remains susceptible in a ball-playing system. So Manchester United pursued Dubravka to become their sixth summer signing as a short-term option for the 2022/23 season, even though they will have the option to sign him permanently next summer.

Dubravka took no time to agree to personal terms, and he has now joined Manchester United officially. Upon completing the move Dubravka said, “To be joining Manchester United is a special moment in my career and I can’t wait to get started, and help the group achieve its ambitions.”

“I am joining an excellent group of goalkeepers with lots of experience in the Premier League, and I know that we will push and support each other to keep our standards at the highest levels. The chance to work with David De Gea, alongside Tom Heaton, is one that I am relishing.”

“I’d like to sincerely thank everyone at Newcastle United, and especially the fans, for many great experiences over the past four and a half years. I enjoyed every minute of my time there and made amazing memories to look back on. My focus is now on helping Manchester United, and we’ll see what the future holds after I have given my all this season. I am excited to be here!”

With Henderson in line to return to Manchester United, Dubravka’s stay at Old Trafford might be short. But he will hope to usurp David de Gea as the first-choice goalkeeper in the 2022/23 season.
