Fulham edge closer to landing Daniel James

Premier League newcomers Fulham are reportedly inching closer to signing Leeds United winger Daniel James on loan on deadline day.

According to a report by The Athletic, Daniel James might be swapping clubs on a second summer transfer window deadline day in a row. The Leeds United winger is closing in on joining newly-promoted Premier League club Fulham on a season-long loan deal before the 11 pm cut-off.

Daniel James joined Leeds United 18 months after the Whites’ initial pursuit, with the Welsh international completing a deadline-day move from Manchester United to Elland Road last summer. The 24-year-old was not always at his best but chipped in with some handy contributions to help Leeds avoid relegation from the Premier League.

But James’s stature has reduced following the arrivals of Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra this summer. And with Leeds United closing in on signing Bamba Dieng, the Welsh winger is set to depart from Elland Road on loan on deadline day. And his next destination appears to be Fulham.

Tottenham wanted to sign James from Leeds United and even discussed a possible loan deal with the West Yorkshire outfit. But Fulham’s late arrival into the fray has changed the equation, with the Cottagers on the verge of securing the services of the Leeds United winger.

Fulham will complete a flurry of activities on deadline day, with Layvin Kurzawa and Willian among the players expected to arrive at Craven Cottage. And the Londoners are now looking at bolstering their attack further in a surprising move, with James next on their radar.

With Neeskens Kebano being impressive in the early stages of the 2022/23 season, it is intriguing why Fulham might be showing interest in James. Nonetheless, the Leeds United winger will bolster Marco Silva’s wide-attacking options ahead of a long and gruelling 2022/23 season.

James will join Fulham in a season-long loan deal as soon as Bamba Dieng touches base at Leeds United. And the 24-year-old Welsh winger will hope to rediscover his best touch after moving to Craven Cottage, with his national side set to participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.
