Aston Villa are reportedly looking to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Aston Villa are hoping to sign 22-year-old central midfielder Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, and multiple other Premier League clubs are involved in the transfer chase as well.
Gallagher had an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, and his performances have caught the attention of several Premier League clubs. It is no surprise that the Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Gallagher will struggle to get regular first-team football at Chelsea, and a player of his calibre deserves to play regularly. A permanent move away from Chelsea could be ideal for the youngster’s career right now, and Aston Villa could be a superb move as far as his development is concerned.
The 22-year-old would be a key player for Steven Gerrard’s side, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can come to an agreement soon. Aston Villa captain John McGinn has not been at his best ever since he took over the captaincy role, and Douglas Luiz has been linked with a move away from Villa Park.
It is imperative that Aston Villa bring in a quality central midfielder before the summer transfer window closes, and Gallagher seems like the perfect fit for them. The report adds that the likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Everton and Newcastle United are all keen on securing Gallagher’s services this summer.
It will be interesting to see where the player ends up eventually. A return to Crystal Palace might be a tempting proposition for Gallagher because he was well settled at Selhurst Park, and the Chelsea midfielder could just kick on with a move back to Selhurst Park.
On the other hand, Newcastle have an ambitious project at their disposal, and any player would be tempted to join them right now. West Ham will be able to offer the midfielder European football and they are an attractive proposition as well.
