Elche might look to sign out-of-favour Danish attacker Martin Braithwaite from fellow La Liga club Barcelona before the summer transfer window shuts down.

According to Spanish outlet Futbol Total, Martin Braithwaite is the subject of interest from Elche over a possible eleventh-hour move in the ongoing transfer window. Los Franjiverdes will look to secure the services of the out-of-favour Danish striker from fellow La Liga club Barcelona if Lucas Boye departs from Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero this summer.

Martin Braithwaite has been a dependable asset for Barcelona since arriving from CD Leganes in a bizarre move in February 2020. The 31-year-old had joined Barcelona after the January transfer window had shut down two years ago, with bizarre rules in La Liga permitting the Catalan club to raid Leganes while effectively condemning them to relegation.

The Danish international has been reliable when called upon by different managers, scoring some crucial goals for Barcelona in the last two years. But Braithwaite has no future at Camp Nou after Xavi Hernandez omitted him from Barcelona’s pre-season tour to the USA. And he is yet to feature for the Blaugrana in the early days of the 2022/23 season.

The Catalan giants have considered terminating Braithwaite’s contract to get him off their books. But Braithwaite remains at Camp Nou, with Barcelona yet to take a decision on him and hoping for some club to launch the offensive to sign him this summer. And Braithwaite has now popped up on the radar of Elche CF.

Los Franjiverdes might have to delve into the market for a striker in the final days of the summer transfer window as Lucas Boye faces an uncertain future at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero. And Elche will look to secure the services of the Barcelona outcast if Boye leaves amid interest from several La Liga bigwigs.

Braithwaite has extensive experience in La Liga and is a dependable striker. The 31-year-old might thus hit the ground running for Elche if his Barcelona nightmare ends before the summer transfer window shuts down.

Apart from Elche, several other La Liga clubs have shown interest in Braithwaite, including RCD Mallorca. But with no club launching the offensive to sign the Barcelona outcast, Elche will have a window of opportunity to prise him away from Camp Nou ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
