Intermediaries have reportedly offered Real Madrid the chance to sign out-of-favour PSG forward Mauro Icardi in a late move.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, intermediaries have offered Mauro Icardi to Real Madrid over a late move in the ongoing transfer window. The PSG forward is even ready to take a 50 per cent pay cut to join Los Blancos, who will unlikely sign him this summer.

Mauro Icardi has endured a topsy turvy professional career, once establishing himself as one of the best strikers in Europe during his stint with Inter Milan. The Argentine international had risen to the stature of club captain before things turned sour a few years ago. Icardi subsequently joined PSG on loan three years ago and had a decent campaign.

But his stock has plummeted since completing his permanent move to PSG a couple of years ago. Icardi is now a peripheral figure for PSG, and the reigning Ligue 1 champions are desperate to sell him before the summer transfer window shuts down. Speculation surrounding Icardi’s future has thus escalated like wildfire, with Manchester United among the clubs showing interest in him. And intermediaries have now offered him to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid briefly showed interest in Icardi, but recent reports claimed they do not want to sign the 29-year-old from PSG this summer. The Argentine striker is a problem child and can harm the harmony in the Real Madrid squad, a trait that Carlo Ancelotti has thrived on since returning to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Other strikers, like Arkadiusz Milik, have also emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. But Ancelotti and Florentino Perez have repeatedly insisted that Los Blancos will not sign another player this summer after bringing in Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni. So the offer to sign Icardi from PSG will likely fall on deaf ears.

The 29-year-old is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to join Real Madrid, dropping his wages by as much as 50 per cent. But that will do nothing to sway the reigning La Liga champions, who do not want to secure the services of the Argentine forward.

Icardi’s future thus remains uncertain amid PSG’s eagerness to get him off the books before the summer transfer window shuts down. A move to Galatasaray thus appears to be the best solution for Icardi as he looks to get his career back on track after a few controversies on and off the pitch.
