Intermediaries have reportedly offered Barcelona the chance to sign 27-year-old Belgian international Adnan Januzaj in a free transfer this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona will have the chance to secure the services of Adnan Januzaj on a free transfer before the summer window shuts down. The Catalan giants will look to bring in an attacking reinforcement if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay depart from Camp Nou.

Adnan Januzaj seemed like the next big thing when he was rising through the ranks at Manchester United over a decade ago. And while the 27-year-old was excellent in his debut season in 2013/14, he failed to take his game to the next level at Old Trafford. Loan stints at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland did not work either, and Manchester United sold him to Real Sociedad in July 2017.

The Belgian international endured a topsy turvy ride at Real Sociedad, as he featured regularly but did not deliver the goods consistently. Januzaj amassed a sub-par tally of 23 goals and 21 assists in 168 appearances for the Basque outfit. But the 27-year-old is now a free agent after running down his contract with La Real, and his next destination might be Barcelona.

Barcelona could enter the market for an attacking reinforcement if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay depart from Camp Nou. The duo face uncertain futures at Camp Nou; and with Martin Braithwaite being surplus to requirements for Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona will need to invest in a new attacker.

Aubameyang is reportedly closing in on joining Chelsea in the coming days, while Memphis Depay has aroused Juventus’s interest. But the latest reports suggest that the Dutch attacker’s move to the Serie A club might be stalling, which might enable him to remain at FC Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window.

But if the Catalan giants succeed in getting Depay off their books, they might move for a new signing for the offensive unit. Januzaj might thus be a viable target, although recent reports have suggested that Barcelona will unlikely launch a move for the 27-year-old Belgian international.

The report by SPORT also adds that Andrea Belotti is on the table for Barcelona. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona’s stance on signing Januzaj has changed, with the 27-year-old Belgian international desperately waiting to sort his future.
