Memphis Depay is on the verge of finalising his Barcelona departure, with the Blaugrana ready to terminate the contract of the 28-year-old forward.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona will terminate Memphis Depay’s contract as soon as he is ready to seal his next move. Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly keen on securing the services of the 28-year-old forward in the ongoing transfer window.

Memphis Depay has endured a rollercoaster ride since joining Barcelona in a Bosman move last summer. The Dutch attacker ended the 2021/22 campaign as the Catalan club’s top scorer. But his stock had fallen before the season ended following the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the winter transfer window.

Things have gone from bad to worse for the 28-year-old this summer, with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha arriving at Camp Nou to push him further down the pecking order. And Depay is yet to feature for Barcelona in the 2022/23 season, with the Blaugrana looking to offload him in the ongoing transfer window amid interest from Juventus.

The Serie A giants are keen on bolstering their offensive unit this summer after losing Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi as free agents and Alvaro Morata following the end of his loan spell. In addition, with Federico Chiesa nursing a long-term injury and Moise Kean not in Massimiliano Allegri’s plans, Juventus will need to bolster the attack despite signing Angel Di Maria.

Depay has thus emerged as a viable target for Juventus, with recent reports claiming they had already agreed on personal terms with the Barcelona attacker. But Fabrizio Romano has refuted such claims, suggesting the 28-year-old is yet to finalise the details of a two-year contract with the Serie A giants.

Meanwhile, Depay and Barcelona have been negotiating his exit from Camp Nou as a free agent, with Fabrizio Romano providing an update on that front. The reputed Italian journalist has suggested that the Catalan giants are ready to terminate Depay’s contract as soon as he has agreed to a deal with Juventus.

The onus is now on the Serie A giants to finalise the terms of the two-year contract to sign Depay in a free transfer. With the 28-year-old successfully negotiating his exit from Barcelona, it will be interesting to see if Juventus can seal the deal to sign him in the coming days.
