Everton wonderkid Anthony Gordon is reportedly keen on leaveing Everton to join Premier League giants Chelsea this summer.

According to Daily Telegraph, Premier League giants Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Everton starlet Anthony Gordon.

The English wonderkid is coming off the back of a breakout campaign in 2021/22 where he played a key role in keeping the club from getting relegated. Gordon was among Everton’s best players in the latter half of the season as wins over Chelsea and Manchester United helped them retain their Premier League status.

Gordon has continued from where he left off and is once again impressing for Everton. This has attracted attention from Chelsea, who are undergoing a squad revamp of sorts this summer. The attacking roster is one such area that is being rebuilt following the exits of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku (On loan).

Gordon is valued at over £50 million at Goodison Park, with Everton having no intention of parting ways with the 21-year-old. Primarily a left winger, Gordon is capable of playing on the other flank and also dropping into midfield if needed.

One of the best talents to come out of the Everton academy in recent years, the youngster is not keen to risk his relationship with the club’s fans. However, the English wonderkid is also eager to play in the UEFA Champions League, something that Everton are nowhere close to being able to provide.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are top four regulars, even winning the trophy the last time around in 2021. The Blues had their £45 million bid for Gordon turned down by Everton and will hope that the player’s preference will shift the tide in their favour.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have been inconsistent, while Callum Hudson-Odoi is likely to leave the club on loan. Bringing in a winger who can add dynamism is key, and the Blues appear to be zeroing in on the Everton wonderkid.

While Gordon has potential, £50 million is a steep price to pay for a 21-year-old who is still developing his game. Chelsea went big on Ross Barkley a few years ago, only for the former Everton midfielder to fall flat at Stamford Bridge.

Landing Gordon is in line with what appears to be Todd Boehly’s transfer strategy as the Chelsea owner. The Blues are showing partiality towards upcoming players and are putting together a young roster that could pay dividends in the long run.

The Everton wonderkid could be the latest name to join the Chelsea revolution. It could all come down to whether Chelsea can fork out what the Toffees are seeking or English whizkid.
