Chelsea submit offer to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly tabled a bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona in a part-exchange deal.

According to Spanish outlet Futbol Total, Chelsea submitted an audacious offer to Barcelona last week to secure the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues have proposed a base fee worth €6 million while including Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi in the part-exchange deal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has exorcised his Arsenal demons since joining Barcelona over six months ago. The veteran striker settled down immediately at Camp Nou and scored several critical goals to inspire Barcelona to a second-placed finish in La Liga, ending a difficult campaign strongly.

The 33-year-old thus finished the 2021/22 season as Barcelona’s joint top scorer despite playing only 23 games. But Aubameyang has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski this summer. With Barcelona reportedly discussing his future with him, he might leave the Blaugrana amid interest from Chelsea.

The interest from Chelsea is hardly surprising, considering they have offloaded Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner this summer. The duo’s departure has left Thomas Tuchel without a recognised striker at his disposal, with Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling the only makeshift options he can consider.

Aubameyang has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, with Tuchel looking to reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund charge at Stamford Bridge. Recent reports had claimed that the west Londoners were preparing an offer to secure the services of the Barcelona striker. And Futbol Total has revealed Chelsea’s proposal for the veteran attacker.

Chelsea’s bid includes a base fee worth €6 million while also offer Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi to complete the part-exchange deal. That takes the total value of the proposal to €25 million, the price demanded by Barcelona to sell Aubameyang this summer.

Barcelona will thus get a top target from the part-exchange deal while getting in a replacement for Aubameyang in Batshuayi, who could be Lewandowski’s backup in the 2022/23 season. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona will accept Chelsea’s offer or demand a €25 million cash bid.
