La Liga clubs Valencia and Rayo Vallecano are reportedly considering a summer move for Barcelona prodigy Nico Gonzalez.

According to Carlos Bosch, Nico Gonzalez is the subject of interest from Valencia over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Barcelona prodigy is also reportedly a target for another La Liga club, with Rayo Vallecano keen on signing the 20-year-old on a season-long loan deal.

Nico Gonzalez started his youth career at Galician club Montaneros before joining Barcelona as an 11-year-old in 2013. The Spanish midfield sensation has gone from strength to strength since then, progressing through the ranks rapidly at the Catalan club’s famed La Masia academy before breaking into the first-team squad last year.

The 20-year-old has been one of the benefactors from Barcelona’s financial struggles in the last few years, and he turned out 36 times for Barcelona in the 2021/22 campaign. But Nico might not feature prominently for Barcelona in the new season, with the Blaugrana signing Franck Kessie this summer and pursuing a move for Bernardo Silva.

With Barcelona’s midfield department stacked, Nico will benefit from departing from Camp Nou on a loan deal for the 2022/23 season. Wolverhampton Wanderers have already shown interest in the Barcelona prodigy, with La Liga clubs Valencia and Rayo Vallecano joining the race to prise him away from Camp Nou.

Gennaro Gattuso has a paper-thin squad at his disposal at the Mestalla and has been frustrated by Los Che’s inability to sign a midfielder. Gattuso wanted to sign Lucas Torreira, who will represent Galatasaray in the 2022/23 campaign. Several other midfielders have since emerged on Valencia’s radar, including Tiemoue Bakayoko, with Nico Gonzalez also a viable target.

As for Rayo Vallecano, the Madrilenian club will look to remain in La Liga beyond the 2022/23 season, which is why they are keen on bolstering their squad sufficiently this summer. Nico has thus emerged as a viable target for Rayo Vallecano, who will look to sign the Barcelona prodigy on loan this summer, as per Fichajes.

Nico needs to leave Barcelona on a loan deal this summer to continue his progress, and joining Valencia or Rayo Vallecano instead of Wolverhampton Wanderers will help him gain experience in La Liga. But it will be interesting to see if either Spanish club can land the Barcelona whizkid.
